DCP3's Carol Levin Presents Surgical Costing Package at UN Meeting

          

 

DCP3 senior health economist, Dr. Carol Levin, participated in a United Nations side event on "Achieving Universal Health Coverage through Essential Health Services: The Role of Civil Society" on March, 26, 2015 in New York.  The side event was part of the UN Post-2015 Intergovernmental Negotiations, and was hosted by the International Federation of Surgical Colleges, and the Global Alliance for Surgical, Obstetric, Trauma, and Anaesthesia Care (The G4 Alliance).  

Dr. Levin presented on the cost-effectiveness of surgical procedures and shared findings from DCP3's first volume, Essential Surgery.  Other panelists at the event discussed the definition of universal health coverage and essential services, patient needs and effective interventions, economic implications of UHC as part of the Sustainable Development Goals, appropriate indicators to measure progress, and the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration.
