DCP3 Editor and Authors Speak at International Nutrition Summit

                                     

On Sunday, May 17 DCP3 Principal Investigator and Series Editor Dr. Rachel Nugent gave a presentation on the economics of health and nutrition at the International Summit on the Nutrition of Adolescent Girls and Young Women, hosted by the Moore Institute for Nutrition and Wellness at Oregon Health & Science University.

The goal of the invitaton-only summit was "to build new and enduring bridges between nutrition scientists and nutrition practicioners in developing countries."  Following Dr. Nugent's presentation, DCP3 Advisory Committee member and chapter author Dr. Zulfiqar Bhutta spoke about the implementation and structure of in-country studies.  Dr. Bhutta also served as a member of the Summit's Execuitve Committe.  Additionally, on Saturday, May 16 DCP3 chapter author Dr. Caroline Fall gave a presentation on the first 1,000 days, in addition to also serving on the Executive Committee.

The summit was supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, whose Nutrition strategy - focused primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia - takes new approaches to delivering interventions proven to produce significant improvements in maternal and child health.
