Stephen Tollman

University of Witwatersrand School of Public Health

Steve Tollman directs the MRC/Wits Rural Public Health and Health Transitions Research Unit (Agincourt) situated in Mpumalanga Province on South Africa’s northeast border. He also heads the Health and Population Division in the School of Public Health, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (Wits) and is guest professor in the Centre for Global Health Research, Umeå University, Sweden. He was first Board Chair of the International Network for the Demographic Evaluation of Populations and Their Health in Developing Countries (INDEPTH) from 2000-2006 and is principal investigator for Network efforts in Adult Health and Aging as well as recently being appointed as Principal Scientist.

Internationally he serves as a member of several scientific and review panels convened by the National Academies of Science, USA, Wellcome Trust and MRC, UK. At Wits he is championing a new initiative to establish an interfaculty, interdisciplinary Institute for Development and Wellbeing.

Stephen also serves as a member of the DCP3 Advisory Committee to the Editors.
