Tom Weiser

Thomas Weiser, MD, MPH, is an assistant professor of surgery at Stanford University Medical Center.  He has been involved in surgical program assessment projects in Cambodia, India, the UK, and the United States. From 2006-2009 he was part of the World Health Organization’s Safe Surgery Saves Lives program. As part of this program he quantified the global volume of surgery and helped create, implement, evaluate, and promote the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist. His current research focuses on quality and cost effectiveness of care, and strategies for improving the safety and reliability of surgical delivery in resource poor settings.  Dr. Weiser earned his medical degree from the University of New Mexico in 2002 and his MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2006. He completed general surgical residency at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, in 2011 and his critical care fellowship at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, in 2012.
