Harsha Thirumurthy is Assistant Professor of health economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Department of Health Policy and Management in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. He is also a Faculty Fellow at the Carolina Population Center and an Affiliate of the Bureau for Research on the Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD). His research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of economics and public health, and over the past 10 years he has conducted research in Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, and India. His research is focused on the design of interventions that are informed by insights from psychology and economics and are applied to various health behaviors including uptake of HIV prevention services and adherence to treatment. He has also conducted research on the broader socio-economic impacts of scaling-up health interventions such as HIV treatment in low-income countries.
