Hugo C. Turner

Imperial College London

Hugo Turner is a health economist and mathematical modeller in the NTD Epidemiology Research Group at Imperial  – a member of theLondon Centre for Neglected Tropical Disease Research. His primary research activates involve incorporating health economics into dynamic transmission models to investigate the cost-effectiveness of alternative control strategies for the Neglected Tropical Diseases.

His previous research involved using a onchocerciasis dynamic transmission model (EpiOncho), to explore the feasibility of reaching the current programmatic goals with annual ivermectin distribution (the current predominant control strategy), and to assess the potential impact and cost of increasing the treatment frequency to twice a year, in a range of endemic and programmatic scenarios. As part of this work he developed contacts within the Ghana Health Service and conducted extensive field work in Ghana to collect primary data on the costs associated with increasing the frequency of mass drug administration with ivermectin.
