Formerly with the World Health Organization (WHO): 1973-74, instrumental in initiating the UNDP, World Bank and WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, leading the programme's pilot project effort, Immunology of Leprosy, and 1986-98, led the entire programme; 1996, principal organizer, Investing in Health Research and Development; launched the Roll Back Malaria programme. Executive Secretary, Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).
