DCP3's Rachel Nugent Speaks at Food and Agriculture Meeting

Dr. Rachel Nugent, DCP3 Project Director and series editor, presented at the Preparatory Technical Meeting for the 2nd International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2), on Thursday, November 14, 2013. The event was jointly hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Bringing together high-level technical experts from the food and agriculture, health, and economics sectors to discuss nutrition and sustainability, the meeting was designed to feed and inform the ICN2 high level meeting planned to take place in November 2014. The ICN2 will bring agriculture and health ministers and heads-of-state to discuss the changed conditions of malnutrition in the world since the first ICN was held in 1993.

Daily sessions touched on the following subjects:  

  • Global and national perspectives of nutrition challenges
  • Evolving food systems and policies, and dietary goals against which to measure progress
  • Country experiences on implementing nutrition-enhancing policies
  • Linkages between agriculture, food systems, and nutrition
  • Policies for nutrition-enhancing agriculture, food, health, and related systems
  • Ways to improve policy choices and policy coherence
